Problem / Idea Description
When trying to insert to a UUID field (with no default value) the value
uuid_generate_v4()
it disables the field and prevents further modifications. Disabling the field may be a behavior expected from auto-generated columns with default values but not for other fields.I run into the problem when I inserted to the generated profiles table (from template "User Management Starter") the value
uuid_generate_v4()
into the id column (of type UUID). It disabled the field with the hint message "This value will be generated". When I then tried to save the row the constraint failed and I had to restart the process because I could not remove the value inserted.This is not exactly a problem, but prevents the user from "undoing" a mistake if an auto-generated UUID is actually a referenced UUID. The penalty is to restart the process and re-insert all the field values.
Expected Behavior
One expected behavior could be not disabling the field when the user manually types something in. Additionally a symbol could be displayed when a function is used and was found in the database so the user gets feedback that his input is actually correct and exists. This symbol then could also provide further information of how to use the function via function
COMMENT
ing.Alternatively a toggle button could be used to enable/disable the use of default values or for re-enabling disabled fields.
Solution Visualization
The realization of function recognition could look like this
