Description

During navigation the map orientation is in movement direction. As soon as there is no movement anymore the driving direction is unknown and the map starts to rotate in various directions.

Steps to reproduce

So far the issue occurs every time doring stand still during navigation. Recalibration of the compas dit not solve the issue. I have looked to an option that does fix the direction of the map during standstill in the direction of the 'expected' movement (direction of the route) but have not found that option.

Actual result

Undesired rotation of the map

Expected result

If no movement is detected the map should keep a fixed direction. This direction could be the last know direction or even better the expected direction based on the planned route.

I have read the other items on this subject. I think the 'cause' is the same ('inaccurate' GPS signal that generate 'movement'). The other items were complaining about the rotating icon. As I use the rotation in driving direction, it is not the icon that rotates but the whole map, which is even more visible.

Am I right if I conclude that there is (at this moment) no solution for this issue for android as it is generated by the GPS signal and not by OSMAND?

Suggested solution (if not suggested before):

  • Add a minimum speed setting for a profile
  • If the speed is below this setpoint the Icon (or the map) will not rotate (position changes on the map are still visible)

I don't know whether this suggestion will generate other issues but is looks a 'simple' solution to me :-)

Your case should have solved with #19230. So if you see rotation without speed then bug was not completely solved. If you see rotation but your speed > 0kmh, we can review the treshold - https://github.com/osmandapp/OsmAnd/pull/19393/files#diff-9827c0cf976d66ddc0e9abd58f903e06f2df1d0c277a94be7332bedf0db6c297R136
