Gallery app can't share public via link? [$335 awarded] #1147
Comments
that would be awesome, or maybe have an option to have thumbnails so we can share a directory of picture in a more convenient way.. |
@gilou I seem to remember that this was possible from the files-view a while back. But i can't figure out how it worked. It may have been droppend vom OC5 or my memory is off. |
Please please, solve this problem! I am using already drobpox and I like very much. However, in order to convince my friends of owncloud this problem has to be solved.... |

äh, sorry, of course I meant "I am using already ownCloud and I like it very much..." You can see how far the monopolz of dropbox is already going! |
Indeed sharing to the public should be in gallery view, not a file listing. owncloud can't replace dropbox (or alike) for me if this isn't implemented. |

Sharing a Gallery with a Link would be really cool !! +1 |
According to http://owncloud.org/features/ (see Other Features -> Galleries), it should already be possible to share galleries with random email addresses, which would imply some sort of link sharing functionality in the pictures app. |
guys we lost the maintainer of this app long time ago - a major rewrite some month ago pushed the gallery's look and feel pretty much and added sharing within ownCloud. Feel free to step ahead and implement that feature - THX |
Thank you for that information, @DeepDiver1975. |
Actually, I would willing to pay some money if someone could solve that problem. How about if we raise some money to motivate the work? If everyone of us who is interested pays 10€$ then it would be maybe easier to get this done. I would do it, if I had the programming knowledge, but unfortunately I don't. |
@tetefolle Do you think this will work? I'd like to start small fund raise at kickstarter to get this thing and maybe some other issues of gallery/images done. I've seen a similar approach over here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2080075632/the-grails-resources-plugin-12-blitz which was not successful - think he wanted to much money to be raised. |
Hi micfra, I think it is worth trying. What do you think would be an appropriate amount? |
@micfra @tetefolle I would also be willing to pay for this feature. It seems to me like its pretty an essential feature. Also it looks as though at one point it was in place. Any how I can suggest possibly a crowd source funder for this - http://coinfunder.com/ I am more than willing to pay in Bitcoin. - Plus it is far easier than using boring slow and expensive fiat. |

@dretek, @micfra, whether it is coinfunder or kickstarter, I don't care, can we start either? I have no experience with crowdfunding, so you both might discuss this. I am getting really annoyed with my photo galleries. For reasong of personal security I don't want to use dropbox but still want to show photos to friends. I have rented my own server for this purpose. However, photo management on my wordpress blog is quite tidious. With owncloud it could be so easy, if only, if you could share it also with non-owncloud-users. |
@tetefolle @dretek @micfra have you heard of Bountysource? You can start a bounty for this issue (and all other issues within this project) here: https://www.bountysource.com/issues/831597 |
@ccvergara I think this seems to be the perfect platform. @micfra @dretek what do you think? If you don't mind, I'd start something on bountysource. |
@ccvergara thank you for that hint. I will try that and will get in touch with the apps maintainers to get it pulled after its done. So please get some backers in there: Having a bounty of at least 100$ total would be enough! Go for https://www.bountysource.com/issues/831597 |
just put $15 in. Please contribute! |
@micfra @tetefolle you're welcome. Glad it worked out! |
$5 from me. lets spread the link to other places! |
It would indeed be a killer feature and additionally be a good way to make OwnCloud more famous! Have just given $10 and hope that more people will follow. https://www.bountysource.com/issues/831597 |
I've just placed a bounty of $10! |
cool! On 13/09/2013 15:48, dinobert wrote:

Is this really that complicated to realise? For me it would work via the "Files" sharing as well, you just need to implement to go to the next image. |
The bounty is up to $235 now! |
Why doesn't it show our initiative on the page with bounty projects? That would be certainly useful to promote our initiative... |
I just installed the 6 beta 2, the link sharing for the gallery is STILL missing. WTF? |
Hi Eric, I understand your disappointment and I would also like to see this feature being implemented soon. However, try to be a little bit polite. Developers of OC are doing this basically for free... |
As I commented a few comments above, I was thinking of doing it until someone here said it will come with OC6. So I thought: OK, I can wait a few more weeks. This is literally the only thing which keeps me using dropbox, and as you can see from the mentioned bounty, I'm not the only one. |
Hi Eric, I absolutely agree about the necessity to implement this feature. However, as far I understand it was not "promised" for the v6 release @karlitschek what's your opinion? |
No, it is even promised for the current version: http://owncloud.org/features/
|
OC: If this doesn't get build anytime soon, just take it of the features page until it does. It will save you a lot of trouble... People are annoyed that the feature isn't there, but advertising that it is, is just lying. Don't be surprised when people get upset then. Wow. There is $1,855 in total in Bountysource. And $310 for this feature. That is a huge part of the total funds of the site. |
This seems to be related to issue #411. If the core of owncloud has to be enhanced for public gallery sharing, the people implementing this, should have that issue in mind, too. I think it could also profit from such a modification of the core. |
This will be reintroduced with the pull request #1476 – if you are interested in this feature, please test that code! :) |
I am interested, how do I test the code? Can I implement the code in my existing OC installation? |
@tetefolle #1476 has been implemented for OC6 - do you have an OC6 instance at hand? THX |
How do I update to OC6? My update center says "up to date" but I am On 19/11/2013 14:20, Thomas Müller wrote:

@tetefolle ownCloud 6 is not released yet. Will be in the next 3-4 weeks. |
ok, I will wait then so long. If gallery sharing works. What are we On 19/11/2013 15:32, Frank Karlitschek wrote:

I hink @DeepDiver1975 implemented it so he should get the bounty IMHO. What do others think? |
I would be happy with that solution. Can we wait until the release of cheers jakob On 21/11/2013 12:15, Frank Karlitschek wrote:

I think thats the way it should go: wait with the bounty until a final version with this feature is released. |
ok, I am just a newbie to this entire process... On 21/11/2013 13:58, Jekyll wrote:

haha - yes there is a bounty on that - lol In case my implementation is considered good enough to claim the bounty I'll donate this to some social organization or project. I'm already getting paid for hacking ownCloud |
nice move! On 21/11/2013 14:08, Thomas Müller wrote:

Nice @DeepDiver1975 ! What about putting the bounty on owncloud/client#994, which is the most commented issue ever on Owncloud? Or has it been fixed in OC6? |
Putting a bounty on that issue is pointless - this really touches the core mechanisms of syncing which involves client and server knowhow and many more. We already spent a lot of time to analyze this issue - some fixes have been pushed to oc6. |
I'd like to wait with accepting the claim request until OwnCloud 6 final has been published in order to test this feature... |

I tried sharing a gallery publicly, but the share functionality in files seems to be a different one than the one in pictures.
Under "files" i can Share with either a person, a group or with a link containing a token
Under "pictures" there's just the person / group functionality.
Is it possible to share via link as well? If not, would you consider adding this?
