This could be an important feature!
We need it for our partners to send us big files.
The actual solution via user account is a roundabout way.

Sending files to ownCloud

Anonymous upload, private upload link

Thanks for your great work!

We would make use of this as well, although we would like users with an account to be able to send a link to 3rd party inviting them "drop" a one off file.

I have seen http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus in use before which does something similar.

I need this too.

After quick look (never developed for owncloud yet), I think it could be implemented in 2 steps:

  • add checkbox 'allow upload' into 'share' dropout for folders. Only when 'share with link' is on. (core part)
  • enable button 'New' in public view if uploading is allowed. (apps part)

Will it be enough?

this feature would be great!

like osmisto described it would be good.

an optional App "Anonymous Dropzone" would be also great.
you can set a directory in that the files will be uploaded and a quota and get a link, that you can share.
with this link you get a small popup with a dropzone and a upload formular.

+1 for this feature

+1 for this as well! This would give ownCloud a really compelling reason to compete with Dropbox.

We had the idea to fulfill this feature by public sharing a folder with write access. Is this implemented? THX

Guys - just as a remark: Writing "+1" or "awesome idea!!111" doesn't make the feature appear sooner in ownCloud.

It is just fucking annoying for every developer who is subscribed to the issues and has to waste time while reading it. If you want that feature develop it yourself or pay a developer/the ownCloud Inc. to do it.

It seems a lot here are requesting that feature. It's not on top of the list for the community atm, so I suggest you join forces and either sponsor a developer to implement it, or get in contact with one of the companies that develop customer oriented features.

@tanghus We've (www.b1-systems.de) implemented the feature already and made it available through pull request #3038 which is still pending for acceptance.

+1 for this feature.
This is a very good feature for businesses who have to get documents from customers.

There’s a new pull request implementing this: #3680 thanks to @rgeber! Everyone who wants this and +1’d this thread, head over and test!

thanks to @rgeber for implementing the upload to shared folders.

Some things I noticed (not sure if this is by attention or a bug):

  1. A folder that is shared with an existing user of the same OC cannot be shared via mail to others not having an account as writable. I can surely tick the "Allow public upload box" but the link sent to the non-registered user is read-only. If it is only shared via mail it works.
  2. Setting both "allow public upload" and password-protecting the folder doesn't work. Either it is read-only and pw-protected or it is open but writable. I understand that public doesn't imply a password, but openeing it to the world is probably not a good idea..?

@thy1985 feel free to test the current implementation on git master and open new issue for anything you find - THX
