demo.paperless-ngx.com returns 404

Hi all,

I had a play with the demo site. It worked well for a while and then started slowing down - requests started taking several seconds to complete, then tens of seconds and then everything started returning 404 not found.

Did I break it (I hope not!), or is there a known issue?

I'll take it back - I'm now getting 502 errors while uploading, long delays have started again and, more puzzling, I created a simple Word document and uploaded the .docx. The error message showed the contents of the document, but then said it was unsupported.
I guess I'm going to have to install my own test system :-)

• As is note in a multiple places re the demo, it is under-powered. Basically it runs on a free cloud tier (this is free open source software after all...)
• Not all file types are supported that you can in a 'real' install, again low-powered host so no tika/gotenberg which is needed for eg Word docs
• Its just not very stable for the same reasons.

Sometimes I worry its a 'negative' advertisement for the software since it works much nicer in real-world setups but I do think its useful to get a basic feel for the UI, etc.

I'm afraid that it is - sort of a "If the people maintaining it can't get it to run properly..." thing. I understand the cost problems though. Out of interest, what would be the ideal minimum hardware requirements for the demo?

Hard to say the minimum requirements but nothing crazy. As you saw, it runs fine most of the time but what kills it is traffic is incredibly variable (about 1.2 million requests per month). I think hosting demos (that require actual computing resources) might be a bit of a nightmare...
