By the way, Chrony is the deafult in RHEL 8 and 9, and ubuntu.

When I installed perfsonar toolkit on Alma chrony is "the NTP client."

Thanks for all the notes. A few things:

  • Enabling EPEL and CRB is part of our install docs. https://docs.perfsonar.net/install_el.html. This is a change from CentOS 7 days. Also important for folks to grab the right perfsonar-repo RPM for EL8 and EL9 (looks like you did).
  • Likewise, we disable the NTP GUIs on EL8 and EL9. There is a note of that at the top of the page here...though looks like i there is a formatting error: https://docs.perfsonar.net/manage_ntp.html. Any ideas to highlight this and the previous item would be greatly appreciated. Seems like it is pretty common for them to get missed since we are getting a lot of questions along these lines.
  • The perl dependency we'll look into. Somebody else reported something similar. Likely a missing Depends in RPM spec that we didn't need in EL7 for some reason.
