Hey everyone,

it's pretty common for me to share a folder and allow to upload/edit files there. I haven't found this option here, but only the "share link to album" button. Uploaded photos/videos should be uploaded to import-folder, indexed and automatically added to shared album as I understand it right.

Background example: Provide friends a shared album to upload vacation photos/videos.

Acceptance Criteria:

  • The user MUST be able to allow uploads for shared albums
  • TBD: We MUST add a hint that this is crucial security wise. Or should we only allow this in case there is a password in place?
  • For each uploaded photo we SHOULD save from which user it was uploaded
  • The user MUST be able to decide which views are available in shared albums (list / mosaic / cards / maps)
  • The user MUST be able to decide if the edit dialog is accessible in shared albums

@al13nus Advanced sharing is something we plan for the future. We want to provide settings with each sharing link that allow you to determine whether users can view/add or edit photos in the shared album.

@graciousgrey do you have some kind of Roadmap/Timeline online?

@al13nus Not yet. Currently we are super busy with building our backend. Once this is done we plan to add a list with planned features on our homepage, so that people can vote for the topics that are most important for them.

From issue #758:
I think this is an important feature. Whenever I have an event with friends or family I want them to share the photos they took with me. I would like to be able to generate a public album link where my friends could also upload the photos and videos they took to a certain album just like you can do with Google Photos (logged in), or MEGAdrop.

I think it would be also important for this feature that the uploader enters their name wherever so it gets added to the "Author" metadata field.

This is what I imagine the option should look like:
Example upload option

I imagine something like this for the album (with uploads allowed) page:
Design example

And this when the user wants to upload:
Upload page for guests

Maybe it would be important for the link to have a expiry date by default when this option is set, so it is not open forever.

It would be great to have an option to share also private pictures in a folder (which are at the moment shown in the folder but not when using the shared link). Of course this should default to "no private pictures" for privacy reasons.

This would exactly solve the use case I wanted to implement! @pluja 's mock-up is especially convincing!

Until then, I guess a workaround can be done by using the (beta) multi users feature: #98

Having anonymous users be able to upload pictures to a shared album would be a must-have feature for me. I'd really appreciate its implementation! 🚀

A public shared album WITH a map view would be awesome!! Photo Prism will even compete with Polarsteps then.

I've developed a service which displays your shared album on a map. Check it out here:

I would love to have the map visualization on a shared album.

Did you try our development preview yet?

Nope, but I'm going right now.

Did you try our development preview yet?

EDIT: On the album I have shared the feature is not working because photos aren't tagged in "States" subcategory, Iceland has no states (I'm guessing)

This feature is the feature that is preventing me from jumping ship and migrating across to PhotoPrism.

@lrq3000, can you briefly explain how #98 is the solution? As far as I can work out, any user with the ability to upload also has some light administrative permissions e.g. control over their profile settings, etc. I've just spent the past few days trawling the issues and road map and still can't get my head around it.

I don't mind my family having login credentials with "user" status i.e. the ability to manage their own account, but the obstacle of creating a profile for anyone that has photos of interest is insurmountable.

My use-case was my wedding; loads of guests with loads of photos. I would have liked to have created a 'public' album, albeit one behind an expiring URL, into which guests could upload their photos/videos and view/download the photos of the other guests for a period of time.

For me the same - please implement this feature, then we will immediatly use this great solution!
