Method "does not specify its types: T"

Building off an earlier example, I have a method on my query class that returns itself, to allow chaining, e.g. $q->set_tablename('foo')->set_query('whatever');

Merely changing the return value of set_tablename from void to self makes PHPStan complain that the method "does not specify its types: T." I'm not sure how T is supposed to be made relevant to this method. (This happens in about a dozen methods in my class.)

What's the appropriate way to PHPdoc this?

The most straightforward way is also self<T>.

Great. @return static definitely passes through PHPStan cleanly.

To be clear, however, doesn't self<T> imply that I'm returning "self which is an instance of the same class as template T"? In which case that is not what I'm returning. T refers to the class of the objects returned by a successful query, not the query class itself.

I just want to be sure I'm understanding this correctly.
