Yep - I'm still here - just lurking in the shadows (busy with other things and my interests have drifted elsewhere onto non-computer projects). :)

@Vakarias, What version of OSX are you running? (I'm suspecting mavericks)

@robn, libassimp built on the build machine or is it part of mac ports? (a quick google search suggests there are issues with 10.9 (mavericks) and macports).

@Philbywhizz Goodness no, I'm still on 10.8.5!

Yes, build machine is 10.9. I did have some troubles getting it building but got those sorted out so a real binary came out. I was never able to test it though.

It was suggested that I use a different system to MacPorts (was it Brew? Can't remember). I never had chance to try it.

I you come up with a process that works I'll do whatever you say :)

'homebrew (http://brew.sh/) ' - it is something I want to look at at some point as i do find mac ports rather awkward and clumsy to work with at times.

Brewed my own libassimp from assimp, placed it where your libassimp was, and changed the name in order to replace it. Seems to work just fine now. I think we need to identify what the hay keeps tossing sincos_stret in there, because this isn't the first time I've had this problem.

Things actually seem to run more smoothly if you just integrate the libassimp you self-brew using Homebrew, and erase the one in libs. Everything actually works that way.

The Homebrew'd assimp requires boost, whose download formula appears to have a broken link since they changed boost_1_55_0.tar.bz2 to boost_1_55_0.tar.gz. Any advice on how to edit the formula correctly? I tried brew edit boost, but just changing the filename doesn't work...
...
EDIT #1: Ah. Editing the formula to use a different mirror id the trick.
EDIT #2: I had to edit the mirror links for both boost and assimp to get them to install.

Closing. See #2702 and http://pioneerspacesim.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=146 for further discussion.
