Hotkey to Open a file with a horizontal panel?

Currently you can open a file with Ctrl + Enter but it always opens in a new vertical panel. This is good for those momments where a vertical panel makes sense.

But can we get a hotkey to open a file in a horizontal panel too?
It would be ideal to be able to decide between a vertical or horizontal panels on the go.

If you have the Hover Editor plugin installed, you can right-arrow from a file in QE to a floating pane with that file, which you can then drag to any split position you like, or leave as a floating popup. (To drag, you have to show the pane header using the little dropdown icon first, or you can turn on Hover Editor's "Show view header by default" option so it always shows.)
