See e.g.:

http://forum.pkp.sfu.ca/t/queue-of-submissions-during-the-submission-process/22849

Is it possible to make submission items to appear on top queue so the latest submitted article appears on top of queue. It is easier to handle them instead of searching in long queue. So far, the latest submission appears at the end of the list/queue.

Also, from SI:

Is it possible for an individual user (or for a whole installation) to re-arrange the sort order and display settings of submissions in a queue? At the moment the queue only displays 6 or so, and when there are many manuscripts in a queue it makes it harder to quickly find the submission you’re looking for.
[...]
The “All Active” queue is a good Plan B, but that’s quite a long list, and most recent projects are at the bottom, which means it’s not the most efficient method of navigating. Ideally, we’d like our “My assigned” queues to hold 15-20 submissions in one shot. In our current installation, we’re able to control how many submissions appear on a page. Preserving that user control would be nice.

In the past, my goal has been to combine these into one long grid, like on the Active page, but where they were sorted by default with Unassigned Submissions on top, then My Authored Submissions, followed by My Assigned Submissions below, with the most recent submissions first.

Non-editors wouldn't see any Unassigned Submissions, so the grid would just display their authored and assigned.

That's just been the thought rolling around in my head for a while. It'd be nice to encourage use of the search and filter tools too.

I have been thinking how hard it would be to make some of these listing dependent on users personal settings? I mean, making it possible for a single editor to change the order and the amount of items visible when logged in.

I try to avoid more settings and configuration whenever possible. It just redirects the UX problem from us onto the user.

Whenever possible, we should seek to solve problems that make it easier for people to accomplish their goals without having to find and configure settings. That's not always very easy to do, though.

Assigning to @NateWr as it's supplanted (I think) by his submission list/JS work.

True, I'm going to go ahead and close even though we're not actually merged on the new lists yet.
