(1) Issue/Bug Description:

I have a PWA installed (YouTube Music). When I have launched both Chrome and YouTube Music and alt-tab from Chrome, I expect to see YouTube Music as a separate option in the application list. I cannot see it. It does show up in the new dock, but not in the alt tab list.

If I have focused YouTube Music and attempt to alt-tab to Chrome, I see YouTube Music but not Chrome. Again, both apps show up in the dock.

Screen recording of the issue:

cosmic-pwa.mp4

(2) Steps to reproduce (if you know):

  1. Launch Chrome
  2. Install a PWA from Chrome
  3. Launch the PWA
  4. Attempt to alt-tab between Chrome and the PWA

(3) Expected behavior:

I should see both Chrome and YouTube Music in the alt-tab bar.

(4) Distribution (run cat /etc/os-release):

Run updates, log out and back in, and report back.

i'm running into the same issue.
there's no outstanding updates,
but if i open chrome - and a seperate app - the only icon that shows on the alt tab menu is the one that is active - same as the video in the original post.

after changing some keybinds - if I use Switch Windows - I'm able to see the PWA - but if I use Switch Applications, Chrome and the PWA get merged depending on which was last active, and I can't Alt + ` from the PWA to Chrome or vice versa like I am able to do with Chrome and it's windows.

Pop Shell does not tamper with the alt tab feature in GNOME Shell.

@mmstick Thanks for letting me know! I'll try search GNOME Shell for an answer!

This started happening to me after updating pop!_os from 20 to 21. Also looking for a solution.

go to settings > devices > keyboard
look for the keyboard shortcut for "Switch windows"
set this to the shortcut Alt+Tab (this will overwrite the old shortcut)
If you now press Alt+Tab you will be able to directly select all open windows without grouping into the different apps.

I am also facing the same issue. There are no pending updates.

Pop Shell does not tamper with the alt tab feature in GNOME Shell.

This doesn't happen on other distros with gnome tried on ubuntu and fedora.I believe pop-shell is the culprit here, because disabling pop-shell extension fixes the issue i.e. all windows (pwa and normal browser) show up in the alt+tab switcher. However, it is also not a good workaround because disabling pop-shell extension also disables the launcher.

go to settings > devices > keyboard
look for the keyboard shortcut for "Switch windows"
set this to the shortcut Alt+Tab (this will overwrite the old shortcut)
If you now press Alt+Tab you will be able to directly select all open windows without grouping into the different apps.

The issue is not that pwa and browser windows are grouped together in alt+tab app switcher. Opening a pwa hides all other browser windows and only the pwa shows up in alt+tab app switcher (i.e alt+` doesn't show any more windows under that pwa window)

Just found a better workaround for this issue in case anyone else is looking for one:
Disabling the option show minimize to tray windows under pop-shell extension preferences fixes this issue

I confirm disabling show minimize to tray windows is in fact a solution. Can someone explain what exactly we are disabling here.
