Bug description

When an osu!mania map has the HP value of 10 or more (either the map itself has this value or you used HR, 11 by using Difficulty Adjustment's limit breaking), some game balance issues are present, two of which might make sense but one doesn't:

Passive health drain (!?)

  • A very slow, passive health drain is observed, although the health drain feature was removed from mania with Remove mania hp drain #22129.
    • My guess is that maps longer than about 12 minutes would 100% fail any player, including topus, if HP 11 is enabled.

Severely limited health recovery (might make sense since high HP = easier to fail)

  • At HP 10, Health recovery is very miniscule. Perfects and Greats, which should be giving some health back, cannot heal the player enough if KPS is low due to the presence of the passive health drain.
  • At HP 11, HP recovery is removed altogether.

(I did more testing to clarify some of the points I've raised in the original report in the discussion.)

In this run, I took enough damage before resuming regular playthrough to show that although I get as many PERFECTs as possible, no health seems to be recovering; you can already see it decreasing instead.

osu!topus plays an HP 11 map

This is footage of the AT mod playing the same map with DA enabled, which sets HP to 11 (using a limit extension). Notice that the HP bar is constantly draining without ever recovering. Click the GIF for full FPS footage.
