I've been having basically the same issue but it seems to only trigger after alt-tabbing 1-2 times. It's my biggest issue right now because if I alt-tab in the middle of a play to check discord and then tab back in there is a 50% chance my game will have what feels like a 50ms offset. It's only been happening for me after the last couple of updates it wasn't like this a week ago. Hope this gets resolved.

Out of curiosity, could you try this build and see if it works any better for you? Please ignore any stuttering or corruption of music, I'm just curious if it fixes your drifting offset issue.

It seems the issue with audio desync is no longer a problem atleast for me since the 31st. I was just about to test the build you sent but wanted to see if the issue still existed and it did but then after I updated (before even touching the build on discord) the desync was unrecreatable? I can still test the build if you'd like as well still but now that I no longer have the issue maybe it was a bug specific to my PC or install.

Hmm, very hard to say. I guess keep monitoring the situation and let us know if it returns.

We should probably attempt to reproduce this better because it keeps popping up.

I was just about to say, I've all of a sudden been having this same issue again.

Unless someone can reproduce other than a select few it's going to fall into the category of "been broken for a select few users even in stable".

In stable I don't have the issue, yet I have it in lazer.

Similar issue here, after a couple maps there is some type of offset kicking in making me hit about 25ms early. There is no universal/local offset activated

In the vid you can see the bug in effect and added an equivalent play in stable where it's working properly

This bug might be occurring while scores are being upgraded to new scorining algorithm.

Today after upgrading to lastest version of lazer (2024-312.1-lazer), the scores started to upgrade automatically (actually it already started from some previous version, but I didn't play long, so it never finished) and after some playing lazer in multi, I felt like offset was little off, cuz I wasn't hitting near centre of the ur bar and when I played some maps in multiplayer, I heared that my hitsounds or tapping were bit off.
I left the mutli lobby.
I started to test some maps solo and I heared from autoplay that offset was a tiny bit off. But later when I tested autoplay again on same map, then everything sounded right and biggest difference was probably that scores had finished upgradeing.

Logs from that play session:

Score upgrades do not run during gameplay (unless it was stuck on a specific aspire map or something equally weird). Should check logs to confirm whether that may have been the case.

I can confirm it happens to me as well, it gets worse the more I change offset.

Try going into replay mode, changing Map Offset up and down a few times, going back and changing global offset a few times, and changing playrate of Replay mode too, as well as HT stuff

To clarify, changing offset many times cannot cause an issue like this (unless doing so permanently degrades the game's frame rate, which I'm guessing you would notice first). Please try the same without changing offset ever and you must be able to reproduce the same issue. If not, then there's something involving user perception going on here.

I'll keep trying to find a way to reproduce it. I know it's not user perspective - I've taken slow motion videos of the offset wizard to see how accurate the hits are, and I've had my key strokes be exactly in time with the music at -30 and 0 at different play sessions. When one of these is correct, the other is wrong.

Another way I can see it happening is when osu! recommends an offset. With no issues, it should recommend an offset anywhere between -10 and -35, according for fluctuations in accuracy. Yesterday, I had restarted my game to "fix" the offset problem, but instead I found that -30 offset was now 0 offset. By that I mean the game was recommending me around -2 to +2 offset.

One thing I do notice is the occasional stutters while playing. This kind of thing happened when I was changing the offset/speed of a replay, which makes me think it could have to do with a compounding delay or something.

But I understand this is no use to you unless you can reproduce it. If I find anything I'll come back here.

so here we are, will repost my text from issue above:

It looks like that background tasks may inflict on games offset if they are taking some cpu resources. Lazer works fine at launch, but as time goes sound offset starts to drift to abnormal values. I finally managed to reproduce it and here is what I did:

(optional, it drifts even without this step) Limited cpu frequency, so cpu works slower than it should (base 3.27ghz, worked at ~2.2ghz);
Launched the game in borderless mode and started autoplay;
Moved mouse to another screen without losing games focus where i had task manager opened and started scrolling it continuously, so games performance became worse.
As a result audios offset started to drift.

I searched for offset in the open issue list and found this closely related to my current situation.

My observations (all observations were done on one single laptop, with the same pair of earphones, under fullscreen mode):

  1. Audio offset was inconsistent for different (ranked) maps, up to ±30ms.
  2. Audio offset was inconsistent across retries. I need to increment the offset (~10ms per retry) to compensate it.
  3. Audio offset was inconsistent when I re-launch osu! lazer - I need to recalibrate for each map.

I am not skilled enough to tell whether these situations hold in other game modes. I play Taiko only.

Today, I got inconsistent offset each replay into a map (observation 2). The logs are attached here.

I disabled windows' fullscreen optimization of the osu! lazer executable which, according to a deleted YouTube video, might be a potential fix to this variable audio offset issue. It turns out that this method does not work at all.
