Keyboard is ignored temporarily until key X is pressed #1848
Comments
same, any updates on this? |
If nothing else, confirmation that this is a bug. Seemed like 12.4 was an improvement over previous release which disabled keyboard backlight but this is worse. I'm seeing it constantly suddenly. |
Another vote for this issue. It's happening very regularly, for no apparent reason I can discern. |
Please confirm the latest beta version. How to upgrade to the latest beta version: |
Yeah, I updated to the 12.4.2 build a couple of days ago and I have still seen the message appear. This and the stuck key bug both affect me. Seems like my keyboard is getting "disconnected" at random times and then reconnected, or at lease KE seems to think it is. I have not seen the stuck key bug since upgrading but that one only happens on my external MS Surface Ergo keyboard and only about 1 or 2 times per week. |
In my case, this happens every time when an external bluetooth keyboard is connected after recovering from sleep. |
And there are some related issues with an bluetooth keyboard, such as touchpad not working, cmd + space not grabbed by the system while seen in EventViewer. All these happen randomly after waking. |
logs look like that:
nothing suspicious actually. the more annoying when it happens on Login screen - so not every key works and I have to use native keyboard to log in :( |
Remove the notification, please! |
I'm also seeing this regularly since upgrading to 12.4.0. Everything worked fine before upgrading. One thing that's different in my situation is that my main keyboard (Microsoft keyboard Natural Pro) connects through a USB switch box and I regularly switch back and forth. Now when I switch to the Mac running Karabiner, it pops up this "keyboard temporarily ignored message". This is even more problematic if the Mac is locked, because I can't clear the popup until I login, but I can't login with the keyboard until the popup is cleared. Catch-22! So I have to use the MacBook built-in keyboard to login, which is not convenient. |
I confirm this is reproduced in 12.4.6. |
I'm having these problems after waking from sleep with the built-in keyboard on my Macbook. This makes it difficult to log in, since
As a result, I often have to retype my password multiple times in both the default and custom layouts until I eventually get it right by chance. Here are the surrounding logs, in case that helps.
|
If nothing else please add a knob in preferences to disable this popup. |
Still there (Pro tip: close issues, when the bug is fixed, not earlier)
I'd suggest, simply remove this "feature". |
Did we find any solution to this? because it's an extremely annoying issue that i'm facing on version 12.7.0. could someone give me some guidance? I need to use the app to remap function keys (im a hackintosh user) |
Super frustrating. I downloaded Karabiner because my (Macbook believes that my) shift key is getting stuck in the "pressed" position. Now Karabiner is disabling the keyboard... which leaves my Mac thinking the key is still pressed for whatever reason (not to mention the notification that forever sits on top). I downgraded to 12.3.0 as some have suggested but that seems to have only "half fixed" the problem -- I can now type with lower case letters, but when I perform any actions with the mouse the computer acts as if my shift key is pressed. (So all links are opening in new tabs and I can only properly edit/select text with the keyboard :-p ) Can this be fixed please? Is there a Karabiner alternative? |
My Karabiner-Elements just started doing this today. Super frustrating. I'm also not able to update on either the main or beta channels. Attempting to keeps resulting in failures. |
Can relate to this too, after my computer is out from sleep with an USB keyboard. |
Same here using version 12.8.0 on macOS Catalina 10.15.2. I've used Karabiner-Elements without any issue for months, and now I get this message randomly... |
Same as all these other comments, due to water damage i've had to disable two keys (both shift keys). this message requires me to restart the app to remove the alert. happens every time waking from sleep. please please please put in a toggle to disable this alert :( |
the same problem for me |
may be the problem depends on status CapsLock key/ |
same here and this key does not work. Please fix it. |
Same here with Caps Lock |
I'm seeing the same issue on 12.10.0, and I'm on macOS 10.15.6. Has a fix or work around been provided? From my logs:
|
On MAC was able to workaround this by going to preferences/devices and selecting "treat as built-in keyboard". No longer get the popups. I'm using KVM + usb keyboard and mouse on a Mac 12.4 |
Problem seems to have mostly gone away for me after increasing the |
I'm also getting this issue, why has this been closed when it's clearly still a problem? |
I've used the Devices > Advanced setting to disable the built-in keyboard while my external keyboard is attached. |
Getting same error all time, please how can I disable this? |
I eventually figured out that this occurred when any key is being held down prior to Elements launching/detecting the external keyboard. |
In my case this behavior was caused by a new USB device on the same USB hub with my external keyboard and mouse. This resulted in the connection to the keyboard becoming unstable (as could be seen in the Karabiner Elements Settings -> Devices panel: the keyboard constantly disappearing / reappearing). The problem (and the connection instability) went away after I removed the new device from the hub, connecting it directly to an available USB port in the MB Pro. I conclude that this is not a bug in Karabiner (but perhaps Karabiner could keep track of USB device reconnections and post a specific warning if too many reconnects occur?) |
5/10 times showing this after waking my mac from sleep. I'm using bluetooth touchid magic keyboard, mac is clamshell mode. The issue is it tells me to press "menu key" on my magic keyboard, which I don't know what it is. The only solution is turn my keyboard off and on again. |
Is there an open issue tracking this issue or this is still the most relevant ticket? |
November 2023 - Still an issue |
December 2023 - has this issue with nuphy air60 v2 |
2024 is here 🎉 Doesn't happen with an intel MBP. |
Well, does happen with M1 MBP and internal keyboard ... ;) . So glad I'm not the only confused one. |
This happened to me today on Mac OS Sonoma on 2020 M1 Macbook Air :) |
Jan 2024 - has this issue with nuphy air60 v2 |
fast solution — try to use https://usevia.app/ to configure your keyboard |
It's still a problem for me, too. No idea why this was closed, we're five years on and it's still giving frequent pointless alerts that have no informational value. |
still a problem |
I can confirm this happens again after my kid presses multiple keys. This is somehow related to MacOS USB recognition, which I solved by turning off the keyboard, unplugging the cable, turning it on again, and then plugging it in. |
I mostly get it from wireless keyboards. |
I get this from my main macbook pro keyboard. |
This happens to me whenever I wake the screen up. To be honest, it's very annoying. |
See the reason why this happens in the docs:
|
Same here, I added a setting to disable the notifications: #3799 |
Still a problem. I get this constantly when using an external Bluetooth keyboard. And then when I ignore it at some point my internal keyboard is enabled agin and starts pressing random keys. |
Ever since last update Karabiner started showing this weird notification daily, with X = random. Can we stop this nonsense, please?
