Ever since last update Karabiner started showing this weird notification daily, with X = random. Can we stop this nonsense, please?

same, any updates on this?

If nothing else, confirmation that this is a bug. Seemed like 12.4 was an improvement over previous release which disabled keyboard backlight but this is worse. I'm seeing it constantly suddenly.

Another vote for this issue. It's happening very regularly, for no apparent reason I can discern.

Please confirm the latest beta version.

Yeah, I updated to the 12.4.2 build a couple of days ago and I have still seen the message appear. This and the stuck key bug both affect me. Seems like my keyboard is getting "disconnected" at random times and then reconnected, or at lease KE seems to think it is. I have not seen the stuck key bug since upgrading but that one only happens on my external MS Surface Ergo keyboard and only about 1 or 2 times per week.

In my case, this happens every time when an external bluetooth keyboard is connected after recovering from sleep.

And there are some related issues with an bluetooth keyboard, such as touchpad not working, cmd + space not grabbed by the system while seen in EventViewer. All these happen randomly after waking.

nothing suspicious actually.

the more annoying when it happens on Login screen - so not every key works and I have to use native keyboard to log in :(

Remove the notification, please!
I like putting my HHKB over the Internal keyboard of my MacBook pro.
It always asked me to press multiple keys both on my HHKB and the Internal Keyboard on MacBook.
So I need to follow the notifications and to press keys on the HHKB, then to pick up the HHKB for pressing keys on Internal Keyboard, and then, put the HHKB back.
I almost need to do these steps every time I came back to use my MacBook.
It's really excruciating.

@charleslevinets

I'm also seeing this regularly since upgrading to 12.4.0. Everything worked fine before upgrading. One thing that's different in my situation is that my main keyboard (Microsoft keyboard Natural Pro) connects through a USB switch box and I regularly switch back and forth. Now when I switch to the Mac running Karabiner, it pops up this "keyboard temporarily ignored message". This is even more problematic if the Mac is locked, because I can't clear the popup until I login, but I can't login with the keyboard until the popup is cleared. Catch-22! So I have to use the MacBook built-in keyboard to login, which is not convenient.

@madfriend

I confirm this is reproduced in 12.4.6.

@quinncomendant

I get this too. I'm adding the exact wording to help people find this issue via search:

[keyboard name] is ignored temporarily until {"key_code":"…"} is pressed again.

Here's a screenshot:

I'm having these problems after waking from sleep with the built-in keyboard on my Macbook. This makes it difficult to log in, since

  • I can't tell on the lock screen whether my key mappings are applied
  • I think (not 100% sure) it's possible to re-enable the mappings by hitting the key in the middle of typing my password

As a result, I often have to retype my password multiple times in both the default and custom layouts until I eventually get it right by chance.

Here are the surrounding logs, in case that helps.

If I type the key notified by the message Karabiner-Elements start functioning again, but if I accidentally ignore the message, I cannot make Karabiner-Elements function even if I relaunch it.

I'd suggest, simply remove this "feature".
There is absolutely no need to do that. Not the notification, but internally.
Why do does this software disable its entire use by having this anywhere inside the code? Simply just don't care. Handle each event from when Karabiner launches until the user quits it.

Did we find any solution to this? because it's an extremely annoying issue that i'm facing on version 12.7.0. could someone give me some guidance? I need to use the app to remap function keys (im a hackintosh user)

ethanjrt commented Dec 9, 2019

Super frustrating. I downloaded Karabiner because my (Macbook believes that my) shift key is getting stuck in the "pressed" position. Now Karabiner is disabling the keyboard... which leaves my Mac thinking the key is still pressed for whatever reason (not to mention the notification that forever sits on top). I downgraded to 12.3.0 as some have suggested but that seems to have only "half fixed" the problem -- I can now type with lower case letters, but when I perform any actions with the mouse the computer acts as if my shift key is pressed. (So all links are opening in new tabs and I can only properly edit/select text with the keyboard :-p )

Can this be fixed please? Is there a Karabiner alternative?

Problem seems to have mostly gone away for me after increasing the to_if_alone_timeout_milliseconds from 150 to 200. (I'm pretty sure it was that option that changed; in any case, one of the complex_modifications timing parameters.)

I'm also getting this issue, why has this been closed when it's clearly still a problem?

I've used the Devices > Advanced setting to disable the built-in keyboard while my external keyboard is attached.
Somehow, some combination of keys on the "disabled" keyboard is triggering this error and allowing some key presses to function. I'm not sure what combination or duration it is but my cat finds it constantly and renders this function pointless.
I agree with alphashuro. This issue should not be closed.

Getting same error all time, please how can I disable this?

I eventually figured out that this occurred when any key is being held down prior to Elements launching/detecting the external keyboard.
Feature request: if the key that must be pressed stops being held down or another key starts. It’s safe to just disable the onboard keyboard.

In my case this behavior was caused by a new USB device on the same USB hub with my external keyboard and mouse. This resulted in the connection to the keyboard becoming unstable (as could be seen in the Karabiner Elements Settings -> Devices panel: the keyboard constantly disappearing / reappearing). The problem (and the connection instability) went away after I removed the new device from the hub, connecting it directly to an available USB port in the MB Pro. I conclude that this is not a bug in Karabiner (but perhaps Karabiner could keep track of USB device reconnections and post a specific warning if too many reconnects occur?)

5/10 times showing this after waking my mac from sleep. I'm using bluetooth touchid magic keyboard, mac is clamshell mode. The issue is it tells me to press "menu key" on my magic keyboard, which I don't know what it is. The only solution is turn my keyboard off and on again.

Is there an open issue tracking this issue or this is still the most relevant ticket?

2024 is here 🎉
Having this issue with a USB keyboard (Razer huntsman Elite) connected to a hub which is an external display (LG monitor) which in turn is connected to an M1 MBP.

Doesn't happen with an intel MBP.

Well, does happen with M1 MBP and internal keyboard ... ;) . So glad I'm not the only confused one.

It's still a problem for me, too. No idea why this was closed, we're five years on and it's still giving frequent pointless alerts that have no informational value.

I can confirm this happens again after my kid presses multiple keys. This is somehow related to MacOS USB recognition, which I solved by turning off the keyboard, unplugging the cable, turning it on again, and then plugging it in.

I mostly get it from wireless keyboards.

This happens to me whenever I wake the screen up. To be honest, it's very annoying.

See the reason why this happens in the docs:
https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org/docs/manual/misc/ignored-temporarily

About "Device is ignored temporarily" alert

“Device is ignored temporarily” alert will be shown in any of the following cases:

If you hold keys or buttons down before Karabiner-Elements open the device.
Your device sends unintented key up events regardless you do not touch the keys.
(e.g., Swiftpoint ProPoint sends key up events of the music play key periodically.)

Press the described key or button again to dismiss the alert.

Still a problem. I get this constantly when using an external Bluetooth keyboard. And then when I ignore it at some point my internal keyboard is enabled agin and starts pressing random keys.
