Release process

Presto follows a very rigorous and thorough release process to ensure high quality releases.

Here are the steps involved in the process :

  1. Announce release cut.
Release POC announces the release cut in Slack.

  2. Cut release.
Release cut happens on the date mentioned above.

  3. Create release notes PR.
Release POC starts working on a release notes PR which highlights the major changes.

  4. Verification of release artifacts.
We test the release candidate through multiple test suites and check for regressions. Once we have confidence in the candidate we finalize the release. This process takes 1-2 weeks depending on how many issues are found.

  5. Update website and finalize release.
The Presto website is updated with the new release and the artifacts are released to the maven repo. This is also announced in Slack.

You can find release notes for all completed releases here.
