DESCRIPTION

The check_passive command checks all the services on the local machine named on the command line, checking them with the Nagios plugin named in one of the --check options (or as specified in the configuration file).

The check command can either refer to an NRPE-configured check command appearing in the NRPE config file (/etc/nagios/nrpe.cfg by default), or it can itself be a Nagios plugin command-line. However the check command is arrived at, it's expected to comply with the Nagios plugin guidelines with regard to output and exit codes.

Once all checks are run, it sends the results in a single session using the Nagios::NSCA module.

Determination of Hostname

The check_passive command does not try to determine the hostname, but the Nagios::NSCA command does fill in a default similar to a Facter-determined FQDN.
