Identifying Instances

Marcus Ottosson edited this page Apr 19, 2015 · 1 revision

Instances are identified during selection, but what criteria should you use?

Remember that an Instance is the inverse of a file. In Pyblish terminology, once a file has been imported, it is referred to as an Instance. To identify an Instance then is to identify what is to become a file once you publish it.

An Instance could be identified by merely being part of a scene. Everything inside of a scene could be referred to as an Instance in which case publishing is identical to a Save scene or Export all.., except that it first has to pass validation.

One of the strengths of Pyblish however is that you can tailor validation to the type of asset you are working with.

Language, software and platform agnostic, feature film-strength quality assurance for content.
