Notice that this change doesn't change the samples at all (in particular
test_step.pyis unchanged and passes), and does not meaningfully change the code flow.Other than changing variable names, the biggest change is that since
buildtreeonly expands a tree in a single direction, it only returns the new position and momentum in that direction.
