Should _version.py be in .gitignore?

I've browsed through a number of python projects now with different flavors of build systems (setuptools, hatch, etc.) and I noticed that _version.py is sometimes in .gitignore and sometimes not. Is there a "right" answer in general, or just even just a "right" answer for hatch? Thanks!

Yes it should but _version.py is nothing built-in to Hatch, rather it's a file sometimes autogenerated by hatch-vcs/setuptools-scm that can be named anything

Maybe this is a dumb question but then why is your __about__.py not included in the Hatch .gitignore?
