Issue description

Describe the issue briefly here.

If there are version conflicts in specified Pipfile, pipenv does not tell which lines are in conflict.

Expected result

Pipenv tells me which lines are in conflict so that I can resolve the problem.

Actual result

$ pipenv lock --clear
Locking [dev-packages] dependencies…
Locking [packages] dependencies…

There are incompatible versions in the resolved dependencies.

The pipenv graph method kind of works (??). It omits django as a root level entry which I guess signals where the problem is (?). It seems to me that this could become harder with larger Pipfiles and multiple version spec clashes.

[requires]
python_version = "3.7"

[packages]
django = "==2.2.*"
wagtail = "==2.4.*"

Please run $ pipenv --support, and paste the results here. Don't put backticks (`) around it! The output already contains Markdown formatting.

This is actually super difficult to provide but if someone works it out we wouldn't say no

Suggested solution: If the error is thrown, collect the dependency graph (just like you do with pipenv graph), then find the tree nodes which have the failed dependency (django).

You can then list those nodes:

ERROR: Could not find a version that matches django<2.2,==2.2.*,>=1.11
Dependencies which require django:
    - wagtail==2.4 requires django >=1.11,<2.2
    - django-treebeard==4.3 requires django >=1.8
    - ...

To clean up that output, you could parse the django requirements of each item in this list and print those in red which require a version that's not currently installed but that might be brittle.

I agree that @digulla's suggestion sounds reasonable and achievable with not-too-much effort using the given information. An AI-type message of "you need to bump X and Y, too, because they conflict with Z" would be amazing but is not practicable to implement.

I would happily take the suggestion from August: it is literally impossible to tell where conflicts are at the moment, and hunting down dependency bumps for high-activity projects is an absolute nightmare. Error logs that don't say what caused the error(s) it is about as useful as logging "there was an error. not telling you what it was, haha. good luck" =)

(because right now, pipenv's logging the symptom, not the cause. The symptom is an inability to resolve dependency versions, but the cause is a dependency rule somewhere that leads to that incompatibility, so that bit absolutely needs reporting)

Hi @Pomax , just for the sake of clarity, how/why you don't get such errors with anaconda? What does it do to bypass these things?

I've never used Anaconda, so I have no idea? This issue was reported by Thomas relating to plain pipenv, which is how I ran into it, too. If Anaconda does something different, you probably want to ask the folks that make it what they did differently.
