Any way to use pyproj with proj 9.x?

I'm using Arch, which has proj 9.0.1 in the package manager. Trying to load pyproj fails trying to load libproj.so.22, which - as far as I can tell - is provided by proj 8.x. AUR has proj6 and proj4 packages, but no proj8. Full error below.

I can symlink libproj.so.22 to libproj.so.25 and it doesn't immediately blow up, but it seems like a time bomb.

I recommend installing pyproj from source: https://pyproj4.github.io/pyproj/stable/installation.html#installing-from-source

pip install pyproj --no-binary pyproj

That seems to have fixed it. Thank you!

For fellow Arch users who have proj installed from community, PROJ_DIR=/usr combined with the solution above does the trick.
