Newer versions of pyresample should be able to load multiple area definition files together. Right now satpy only loads the package provided one. It should merge the package provided and any user provided ones.

@mraspaud Didn't you fix this recently or was that just in the feature-xarray branch?

This is possible now. When provided a string for the area parameter in Scene.resample Satpy will look through all files in the config directories named areas.yaml.
