I use a VPN when downloading torrents, and it has it own network adapter on Windows. In qBittorrent, you can specify what adapter to use under the advanced settings tab. If i disable my vpn connection, then my "vpn network adapter" get's disabled and causes qBittorrent to stop all torrents, which is good. The problem is that if I connect to my vpn again, that is activating its adapter, then qBittorrent won't start downloading again. I wonder if it's possible to fix this? Beacuse as of now I have to restart qBittorrent again and it's annoying if I forget it. I think the bittorrent client Vuze has this option.

I believe: https://qbforums.shiki.hu/index.php?topic=2921.0 is what you're looking for.

However, I would like to contest this answer

Reasons:

  1. Accuracy/Fairness:
You allow (and even default) to the option of binding to any IP address. However, it binds to a specific IP address. This is a clear case of the UI not reflecting the actual capabilities of the library.

  2. Stability:
Restarting shouldn't be a requirement to handle something that happens automatically (connection drop and resume). I shouldn't, and won't, go chasing after software to restart it. Unfortunately, I can't agree that qbittorrent is ready for use in a live environment until this is improved.

  3. Compatibility:
I have sampled 3 common VPN providers (Torguard, IPVanish, NordVPN) and all 3 of them, by default, rotate your local IP address. Of the 3, only Torguard has provided an option to have a static local IP address, which also requires using a static remote IP address, which is not favorable.

  4. Ease of use:
For example, every time my computer goes to sleep, it disables my NIC (even though I have it set not to in power management options), so all my connections drop. Every time I wake up my computer, my VPN reconnects, but I need to go and restart qbittorrent.

Looking forward to your reply. I'd honestly love to see this improved and continue using it.

Cheers!
