The Philosophy

May I suggest a double labeling-tagging system? After reading the multiple labeling issue[https://github.com//issues/13] where «cdumez» commented a year ago that
«Would indeed make sense.» and that «The issue lies in the "Append label to save path feature". I'm still not sure how to support both features.» so I came up with the idea that you keep the labeling system AS IT IS, BUT you ADD-CREATE a new system that you call it TAG/TAGGING -something like that- that allows for only inner qBittorrent organisation of torrents!

The Idea

  • 1.Label system stays as it is (maybe rename to archive system or Filing system)
  • 2.add a tagging system for inner qBittorrent torrent management

Other complementary ideas:

  • as «AsaRossoff» commented 5 months ago it would be usefull to have both "or" and "and" logic while selecting tags to find torrents inside qBittorent. Quoted by «AsaRossoff» «This also calls for the ability to select multiple labels on the sidebar. uTorrents original behavior was to have "OR" (inclusive) logic when multi selcting with ctrl and shift, but, I understand, recently they added an option to use "AND" logic instead (which is the only logic I find useful for the way I use labels).» Ability to assign more than one label to a torrent #13
  • as «wcharczuk» suggested 9 months ago it would be usefull to have auto tagging system with user created rules-filters etc. Quoted by «wcharczuk» «Create rules to automatically assign labels. Could be as simple, to start, as 'If Torrent Tracker Contains '%xyz%' => Assign Label. This feature is present in TransmissionBT on OSX.» Automatically Assign Labels #286

These are some pretty good ideas, especially for the #13 part.

Since more then a year have passed, @sledgehammer999 is it OK if I start implementing "Tagging" system? Does it still fit into the current philosophy of qBittorrent?

Also, if "Tagging" system will sometimes be finished, I suggest renaming "Label" into "Category". The reasons are:

  • Labels are often used in plural, but category is usually singular.
  • "Category" sounds well with sub-folder feature, i.e. appending to the save path.
  • "Label" and "Tag" have very similar lexical meaning - "an attached piece of information". Moreover, in at least two non-English languages I know, borrowed word "Tag" is synonymous to equivalents of word "Label".

@ostappus read my comment here:#13 (comment)
(the other devs there also have suggested similar things to this issue)

I think there should be also a way to filter by "not with" label or in category .. so e.g. I would be able to filter all movies (category) that has Scifi label and are not marked with Seen label.

We now have categories and tags so this issue should be closed.
