Virtual field does Display in form after project is closed and reopened

Create a virtual field and add it to a drag-and-drop form.
Apply the changes, save the project and the virtual field displays in both the form and table.
Close QGIS and reopen and the field now only shows in the table view. There is a space for the field in the form but nothing displays.
Perhaps the virtual field does not exist at the time the forms are generated???
I'm running windows 7 32 bit.
