  This whitepaper from ATI covers the video output capabilities of their current graphics cards. It explains their 10 bit framebuffers and DACs, gamma- and color-correction, video scalers and support for different display devices. This is supported on MS-Windows and Linux with some of their pro hardware, and on Linux and Mac OS/X on some consumer graphics cards via special Psychtoolbox functions (see section Native10BitFramebuffer in help PsychImaging).
