How to manage author template, default author and custom authors posts?

Hi,
I have a default author in a blog. I set him in _metadata.yml file:

Sometime I need to add another author in a blog post, and I edit the front matter:

author:
  - name: "Andrea Borruso"

      - name: Associazione onData
        url: https://ondata.it
    url: https://twitter.com/aborruso
  - name: "Davide Taibi"
    affiliation:
      - name: "Istituto per le Tecnologie Didattiche - CNR"
        url: https://www.itd.cnr.it/
    url: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davide-taibi-b6825113/

I have these outputs:

• the two authors correctly rendered, in the single post

• the default author rendered twice, in the overview view

The blog list is based on it:

Is it a bug, or is there any way not to have the duplicate in the blog view?

I think what is happening is that our author normalization during document rendering is removing the duplicate author ('Andrea Borruso' is listed in both the _metadata.yml file and the document front matter). Our listing feature reads the author without normalization (using merged front matter before normalization) so it isn't getting the benefit of the de-duplication.

I'd recommend that you remove the duplicate entry from the document front matter, unless there is a reason that it must be present.

@dragonstyle authors are not merged between _quarto.yml, _metadata.yml, and YAML front matter. They override each other.

I am not sure that's a bug in general, because if the authors were merged, it would mean you cannot discard the "default/global" authors.
Let's you add a blog post, where you are not involved. If it's merged, then you'll be part of it no matter what.

Here the issue would be that listing should deduplicate authors.
