feels like it could provide a bit more context to aid in decision-making.

My understanding is that these upgrades are proposed because the source of my currently installed package (CRAN or GitHub) has a more recent version. Not necessarily because the upgrade is needed for the primary install, in the sense of a minimum required version.

What do you think of adding:

A later version of the following packages is available from the source of the local version, e.g., CRAN or GitHub.
