if 'send announcement email automatically' flag is unchecked, there is no way for organizers to send one later #295

I'd prefer to focus on making a draft state for events with warning text that all-chapter announcements can't be sent later. Giving individual event organizers the ability to email 1,000+ people whenever they want is not something I want to do — gating whether we email the whole chapter is the main reason that events must be approved in the first place. |
Not that they should get the power to free-form email the entire chapter or send multiple e-mails, but, since they have this option when creating the event:
...it would nice to be able to select that option later, but only one time (it might be a button that becomes grayed out once the option is exercised). Failing that, might the text be modified to:

Sorry @lilliealbert I just re-read what you wrote and saw that my previous comment was unnecessary. Draft status coupled with a warning text that the all-chapter announcement checkbox is the one opportunity to send this message will resolve this issue completely. I've leave it to you if you want to close this issue now, or when the draft functionality #291 is completed / issues closed. |
Hey @kmolo, this got done last summer! Sorry for the delay in letting you know >_< |
(In that, now, if you don't want to send the announcement email upon approval, you can click a button to send it later, after it's been approved.) |
Yay! |
In order for my co-organizers to look at the event I created before it was emailed out to everyone being notified about new San Francisco events (a separate need that is being resolved by Issue #291 'Allow organizers to create Event drafts'), I un-checked the 'send announcement email automatically' flag -- and currently there is no way for an Organizer to send the announcement email out later. @lilliealbert with her higher admin privileges had to send one out for us.
It seems that this could be resolved by either giving Organizers the ability to initiate an announcement email later, or (once Draft status is available) creating an alert that warns Organizers that this is their one opportunity to send one.
