Love raindrop.io's UI and featureset. However, for many potential users, data sovereignty/security/privacy, backup/long term archival considerations and site reliability are of paramount importance.
For example, I've noticed site availability and load times can vary substantially during peak use times throughout the day and have generally increased with the growing popularity of the project overall. "Free" hosting tends to neither be scalable nor sustainable (or free) over longer time horizons and can often lead to unwelcome alt. data monetization strategies. As such, a self-hosted option would be greatly welcomed to help address some the above issues and garner support among a broader userbase.
Seeing that the project's mobile and desktop clients have been open sourced, it may follow logically to approach the server-side with similar community driven openness.
Has any thought been given to creating a docker compose file for the backend and adding client support for user specified servers?
It would be a dream to see Raindrop project on the Self Hosted list!

I have local NAS /w Docker and remote hosting servers ready for UAT or QA testing. I'd be glad to help in any way to make this possible. Lmk
