I tested this with the French department of Midi-Pyrenees. Results are (output sizes in bytes):

  • 2809856 Just roads
  • 2852864 Rail added - ~ +1.5%
  • 2992128 Rail + simple rivers added (no riverbank polygons) - ~ +6.5%
  • 3138048 Rail + simple rivers + river banks added - ~ +11.5%

It's worth noting that at such low resolution the riverbanks don't look particularly good. I think the size/aesthetic trade of is certainly not worth it for this feature.
