With newer Asterisk systems, iaxrecord returns the following error:

ERROR: Unable to register with the IAX server

The cause of this is lack of CallToken support in the ruby IAX2 stack. The Asterisk error is:

chan_iax2.c:4948 handle_call_token: Call rejected, CallToken Support required. If unexpected, resolve by placing address 192.168.0.3 in the calltokenoptional list or setting user asterisk requirecalltoken=no
