I'm afraid I don't know much about USB sound card setup, but the references to "bcm2835" suggest it is trying to use the bcm2835 alsa driver for input, which isn't going to work. Perhaps try removing snd-bcm2835 from /etc/modules? |

In case it's relevant, I notice that pulseaudio is not included in the 2013-02-09 raspbian, whereas it was included as part of the previous version. |

The program is pointed at the wrong ALSA sound device number. Incidentally, USB audio devices are now much better performing with the latest kernel. |

Since the upgrade to the latest raspberry pi kernel (using rpi-update), recording sound using libportaudo2:armhf no
+longer works.
To the system, a USB audio-device is connected.
