Passing dynamic information to the email templates

We're adding a field to our new subscription form that is related to an add-on. Ideally, we would be able to pass the contents of this field as {{ line_description }} in the email template, but it seems that this is not possible and that that line will just be the static information defined in the subscription setup. Anyone have clever workarounds to this?
