<p>Performs a variety of accounting duties that range in level of complexity from clerical accounting duties such as managing receivables or serving as payroll reporter, to more complex duties such as preparing budget or reconciling accounts.
This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. <h5>Responsibilities</h5>

<li>Maintains and reconciles accounts and makes correction to journal entries as necessary. Tracks and reports revenue and expenditures.</li>
<li>Assists in preparing departmental or grant budgets and cost reports and variance analysis</li>
<li>Reviews expense and accounting documents for accuracy and appropriate approvals and ensures transactions are charged to the correct account.</li>
<li>Handles accounts receivable for department including invoice preparation, aging reports, follow up on past due accounts. Compiles bank deposits and delivers to University Income Accounting daily.</li>
<li>May prepare and process purchasing, travel documents and create special checks or check requests. Solves problem invoices and processes for payment.</li>
<li>May serve as the department payroll reporter. May track department payroll expenses and ensure labor costs are charged to correct accounts.</li>
<li>Reviews and reconciles University procurement purchases ensuring correct Purchasing and Accounting procedures are followed.</li>
<li>Reconciles monthly management statements and maintains back-up documentation. Assists with financial month end processing.</li>
<li>Assists in tracking department inventory. Maintains accurate files.</li>
<li>Facilitates financial synergy among the Garden departments to optimize use of University resources. Develops systems to support the input and handling of financial data and tracking. Trains other clerical staff.</li>

<h5>Job Summary</h5>
<p>The Horticulture Department at Red Butte Garden is seeking seasonal gardeners who want to work with plants and learn more about their care. Do you prefer working both indoors in a greenhouse and working out of doors, while learning more about plants and nature and working with people who are passionate about what they do? We strongly prefer people who are committed to the role of a Botanical Garden and want to be a part of a great team!</p>
<h5>Responsibilities</h5>
<p>A primary duty is to ensure a thorough, detail oriented, daily hand-watering so that plants have the proper moisture levels.</p>
<p>Must be willing and able to perform detail hand watering for several hours a day; co-lift 60 lb bales of soil/media and large plants for interior-scape change outs; operate soil mixer; work from ladders to hang shade cloths, change lights, hang/maintain color baskets; apply sanitation and disinfectant products; flexible with working on a variety of projects associated with simple greenhouse facilities maintenance, cleaning, and crop production.</p>
<p>Other duties include: making hose repairs as needed, weeding, planting, deadheading, pruning, fertilization, transplanting, sweeping, & event support. May also apply pesticides like insecticidal soaps and horticultural oils, under the supervision of a certified pesticide applicator.</p>
<p>Selected staff are required to wear a facial mask at all times on the UofU campus, including Red Butte Garden, during the pandemic. </p>
<h5>Qualifications</h5>
<p>Nine months professional work experience with the responsibility for five or more acres of grounds, or equivalency; a valid Utah vehicle operator’s license required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Selected applicant will be expected to obtain a pesticide applicator’s license.</p>
<h5>Preferences</h5>
<p>Nine months professional work experience preferred, but not required. Pesticide applicators license also not required for this seasonal position. Must be at least 18 years of age, and able to operate equipment common to the trade. People who enjoy gardening, working with plants and/or desire to learn more. Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes, and understand the physical commitment required for gardening. Proven written and spoken communication skills, a commitment to provide excellent customer service, and ability to work cooperatively with others. Must commit to working 16-29 hrs/wk.</p>

We are seeking friendly, out going, energetic individuals who are willing to provide top-notch service to our guests and customers at the Red Butte Garden Visitor Center. As a representative of the Garden you have the opportunity to make a great first impression with first time visitors while expanding our relationships with our Garden visitors and growing member base.
Collects fees or payments from customers purchasing goods or services. Prepares appropriate documentation to record transactions.
This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the Garden if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.</p>

<h5>Job Summary</h5>
<p>Red Butte Garden is seeking an assistant horticulturist for the Greenhouse team. This full time, year round, benefited position has lead responsibility for the Integrated Pest Management program within the Garden’s production greenhouses and seasonal and indoor displays. Also assists in implementing the plant production program; the operation, maintenance and repair of greenhouse facilities and equipment; installing and maintaining seasonal and indoor displays, and leads seasonal staff and volunteers as requested.</p>
<p>This is a full-time, year-round position. Actual days and times will vary according to coverage needs of the greenhouses, and performing needed indoor display maintenance in-between scheduled Garden and private events. A regular weekend shift is required, including some holiday shifts, and occasional weekend evening shifts from April through mid-October.</p>
<p>The position requires attendance in order to perform the job duties.</p>
<h5>Responsibilities</h5>
<p>
<ul>
<li>Assists in programming and running the Integrated Pest Management ( IPM ) Program by scouting, monitoring, identifying, and applying appropriate control options to address plant health concerns. Recommends IPM protocol policy and develops IPM plan. Diagnoses health problems, identifies and implements remedies. Selects and applies control options for insects, disease, and weeds. Control options may include a variety of IPM tools such as beneficial insects, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, disinfectants, and sanitation. Special attention to beneficial insect use is emphasized. Tracks and evaluates effectiveness of control measures. Inventories and recommends orders as needed and within budgets. Posts necessary notifications regarding re-entry and ensures compliance with the Worker Protection Standard ( WPS ). Coordinates applications to avoid disruption of scheduled events. Must be able and willing to apply chemical applications when needed to minimize pest populations. </li>
<li>Assists in managing the irrigation of plant material on a daily basis in the greenhouse areas, containers, and interior displays. Ensures automated irrigation systems are maintained, programmed and running as scheduled. Provides training and direction for staff and volunteers concerning plant irrigation needs and hand watering techniques. Hand waters as needed.</li>
<li>Assists in keeping the facilities and equipment functioning by checking temperatures and operation of equipment, suggesting large repairs, performing minor repairs, scheduling and performing minor cleaning and maintenance tasks. Oversees seasonal facility adjustments and maintenance, including but not limited to setting up wet walls, shade cloth and swamp coolers.</li>
<li>Provides leadership for seasonal staff and volunteer groups as assigned, including instruction, constructive criticism, planning and communication. Recommends scheduling of garden and equipment maintenance tasks. Coordinates required care to avoid disruption of scheduled Garden and private events.</li>
<li>Assists in implementing the plant production program for outdoor gardens, plant sales and seasonal displays. Assists in providing correct cultural needs including scheduling, temperatures, fertilization, lighting, plant moisture levels, soils and sanitation. Assists in propagation by seed, cutting, and division. Maintains plant quality with timely transplanting, pinching, pruning, trimming, and growth regulator applications. Other production duties include but are not limited to: production inventory organization, maintaining plant records; ordering and receiving plants, seeds and growing supplies.</li>
<li>Assists in the installation and maintenance of outdoor seasonal displays (assigned annual beds, containers and baskets). Duties include but are not limited to: designing and recommending plants for displays, weeding, mulching, hand watering, fertilization, deadheading, pruning, pest diagnostics and control, debris removal, sweeping sidewalks, and irrigation repair. Displays installed shall be approved by the Greenhouse Coordinator.</li>
<li>Assists in installation and maintenance of indoor plant displays. Duties include but are not limited to: designing and recommending plants for displays, replacing short term displays as needed, arranging, replacing permanent display plants as needed, debris removal, trimming, dead heading, cleaning foliage, pruning, mossing, fertilizing, weeding and hand watering. Displays installed shall be approved by the Greenhouse Coordinator. Able to lift 50 lbs.</li>
<li>Serves as a professional staff member in responding to public inquiries; providing content for garden publications, website, TV and radio spots; providing training for volunteers and periodically teaching programs in the area of expertise.</li>
<li>Serves as lead greenhouse staff in the absence of the Greenhouse Coordinator as assigned. Serves on the Garden’s Safety Committee.</li>
</ul>

<h5>Qualifications</h5>
<p>Associate degree in Horticulture, Biology or a related field, or equivalency and 1 year of related experience required. A valid Utah State Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, or the ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire required. A general knowledge of plant identification and nomenclature and specific knowledge of grounds and garden maintenance. Demonstrated oral and written communications skills to deal effectively with a diverse clientele.</p>

<p>The position does not have a regular work shift. The exact schedule will vary weekly depending on event and concert schedule. Each of the 30+ concerts between May and September require an 8 – 12 hour shift.</p>
<h5>Responsibilities</h5>

<li>Assist in providing setup and concert support duties and timely completion of tasks during each of the seasonally scheduled concerts and other events.</li>
<li>Concert Duties include: setup, takedown, directing vendors, trash removal, assisting security, responding to maintenance emergencies, and supporting custodial staff. Setups and takedowns for other outdoor events, such as weddings, movies, etc., will be scheduled in advance and setup at least one hour prior to the event.</li>
<li>Assure duties are performed in a manner that preserves the high-quality condition of Red Butte Garden and help solve problems that arise.</li>
<li>Setups include: Trash removal, setting up barricades and rope lines for crowd control, working with vendors, assisting security, and other duties as assigned.</li>

<p>A 1200-hour AmeriCorps position is available in the Conservation Department at Red Butte Garden from April-December 2020. The field assistant will perform as a member of the conservation team and will assist the Conservation Director and Research Assistant in conducting botanical field research for the purpose of 1) assisting indigenous farmers with establishing horticultural operations for the Four Corners Potato (Solanum jamesii), 2) native plant species conservation (surveys, collections, propagation, archiving) in the greenhouse and field, 3) performing laboratory analyses on plant materials and 4) assisting with data analyses and report writing for conservation projects. Travel throughout Utah is required between April – November for up to 5 days at a time, and could include some overnight camping. The position involves long field days working out of doors and in rugged terrain throughout Utah during the field season. </p>
<h5>Responsibilities</h5>
<p>The individual will assist with tasks including, but not limited to: establishing production facilities (e.g. trial beds, irrigation systems, harvest methods) for the Four Corners Potato on Tribal and private lands, propagation of native plants in the field and greenhouse, field surveys for native plants, data collection, plant identification, data entry and organization. Opportunities also exist for assisting the department with educational outreach, technical and non-technical writing and data analysis. </p>
<p>Applicant should be comfortable working long hours in arid environments for multiple days at a time, and navigating and hiking in remote areas. Sensitivity to the needs and ways of indigenous farmers is a must. The individual must also be confident completing tasks with minimal supervision and working in a small team environment. Experience with cultural resources, plant propagation, biological field and lab work and GIS is strongly preferred.</p>
<h5>Qualifications</h5>
<p>Individual must hold and maintain a driver’s license, pass the University of Utah driving test, and be eligible to operate a government vehicle. Highway driving, maintained off-road, and rugged off-road driving skills are necessary. </p>

<p>Compensation includes stipend paid in bimonthly installments by the AmeriCorps program through the Utah Conservation Corps (UCC). Per diem compensation for food will also be provided for days spent in the field.</p>
