1.0 Download

The current version of WattDroid is not currently available from the Android marketplace. Users are able to obtain the latest version of the WattDroid application from their Android phone by following the steps listed below.

1. Ensure that installation of non-market applications is enabled on your Android phone. To check this setting, go to settings → applications and make sure that “Unknown Sources” is checked.

2. Next, enter the URL “http://tinyurl.com/WattDroid” into your phone’s browser and the WattDroid application will be installed on your phone.

2.0 Using WattDroid

The following sections explain how to use the WattDroid application.

2.1 Running WattDroid

After downloading and installing WattDroid on your Android phone, simply find the WattDroid icon on your phone’s home screen and tap it to start the WattDroid application. The first time WattDroid is started, a prompt asking for a WattDepot Server URL will be displayed. This prompt will only appear the first time WattDroid is run. After the initial run, the server URL is stored, but can be changed through the User Preferences.

2.2 User Preferences

To access User Preferences, press the menu button and tap the “Edit Prefs” button at the bottom of the screen. User Preferences allow the user to edit preferences for the WattDroid application.

The User Preferences consist of the following:

Server URL: The URL of the WattDepot server to query.

Refresh Rate: Rate at which to query the WattDepot server for new information.

2.3 Displaying Source Information

Once a WattDepot Server URL is set, a source list corresponding to WattDepot sensors for that server will automatically be displayed when WattDroid is started. To display source information, tap on a source name in the sources list. This will bring up a new screen with the energy information for that source.

The information displayed consists of the current reading (in watts), the name of the sensor, a brief description of the sensor’s location, and a brief description of the sensor itself. To view the location of the sensor using Google Maps, tap the button on the source information screen labeled “View Map Location”.
