[deprecated] Ruby FastCGI Dispatcher ======================= Author: Slava Tretyak (restorer@zame-dev.org) URL: https://github.com/restorer/Ruby-FastCGI-Dispatcher What is it? ----------- Have you ever wanted to write a simple web-script in Ruby? Say, hello world. Even using mod_passenger and rack you must create create bunch of folders and configuration files. Too bad if you use lighttpd: you should create scripts to start/stop thin and setup lighttpd as reverse proxy. Don't you think that this is too much for a simple hello world? This FCGI handler allows you to write in Ruby just like in PHP. Create example.rb and put it in the www-root: puts 'Hi!' That's all! Go to http://location/of/www-root/example.rb and see the result. More complex example: require 'cgi' cgi.print(cgi.header) cgi.print('<h1>Hi!</h1>') This fcgi handler can: * Reload script if you change it * Send Content-Type header if you forgot to send it * Show pretty exceptions Warning ------- That this handler is not intended to use with complex applications, use rack/thin + mod_passenger/reverse proxy instead. Installation guide ------------------ ### Apache2 + mod_fcgid (**not** mod_fastcgi) IPCCommTimeout 40 IPCConnectTimeout 10 AddHandler fcgid-script .rb FcgidWrapper /path/to/ruby-cgi .rb don't forget to add LoadModule / SocketPath / SharememPath / etc ### Lighttpd server.modules += ( "mod_fastcgi" ) fastcgi.server = ( ".rb" => (( "bin-path" => "/path/to/ruby-cgi", "socket" => "/tmp/ruby.socket", "max-procs" => consult_lighttpd_documentation_and_set_appropriate_value, "idle-timeout" => 20, "kill-signal" => 10, # SIGUSR1, use "kill -l" to find value for your system "bin-copy-environment" => ( "PATH", "SHELL", "USER" ) )) )
