This repository contains copies of deprecated projects that are no longer maintained by the Hydra community.
Outdated projects have been a source of confusion for new adopters who stumble upon them, not realizing they are no longer maintained.
- First we identify a project that is no longer being maintained by the Hydra community.
- Then we send an announcement to the hydra-tech mailing list (hydra-tech@googlegroups.com) that the project is slated for deprecation.
- If there is no request to keep the project active, then the repository is compressed and added to the
deprecated-projects
repository. - The repository containing the deprecated project is then deleted from github.
- The repository containing the project to be deprecated is cloned from github as is, including all branches.
- The
origin
remote is removed. - The repository is compressed to
.zip
and/or.tgz
and added to thedeprecated-projects
repository in a directory of the same name as the deprecated project.
- Go to https://github.com/projecthydra/deprecated-projects.
- Locate the directory containing the compressed repositories of the deprecated project (they are all named the same as the project at the time it was deprecated).
- Click on the compressed file you wish to download. Since it is compressed, github will display a link to "View Raw".
- Right click the link that says "View Raw" and save the file to your local filesystem.
- Uncompress the file. The resulting directory will be the complete git repository of the project at the time it was archived, minus the remote (i.e.
origin
).
NOTE: Github seems to choke when attempting to download large files (> 50MB) in this way, and there are some projects that exceed that limit, even when compressed. If you want these projects, then you will have to clone the entire
deprecated-projects
repository and uncompress the project from there.
We try to make sure nobody is using a project anymore before we archive it. However, if you depend on the project remaining as an accessible Github repository, then send a message to the hydra-tech mailing list (hydra-tech@googlegroups.com).
