Should allow you to set a different issuer for for each side. Looks like you can hack it now by going USD/usd

The server currently, does convert lowercase to uppercase when given a string. But, this behaviour should not be relied upon. It could go away at anytime.

Internally and as far as the network format goes ISO country codes are case sensitive and should be in uppercase.

I'm confused, what does this comment have to do with this issue?

Should allow you to set a different issuer for for each side.

You can select a different issuer for each side, it just won't remember your choice if you reload the client, because it currently tracks only one "preferred" issuer per currency.

Not sure how we want to fix this.

Maybe you could allow setting a fourth char after the three canonical ones, and assigning them different issuers.
Such as USD1 and USD2.

To my understanding, there should be two possibilites, and perhaps both should be supported:

  1. Create offers to exchange IOUs from different issues via the decentralizd market
  2. Exchange them by manipulating trust lines of people who trust both issuers, as described here.

Option number 2 could perhaps be cheaper, as the exchanges are pretty much spreadless. If only option 1 was implemented, I believe there would be a spread.

Is my understanding correct?

Is this issue solved?
It seems there's people trading BTC/BTC:

Like I said above, it's possible to enter different issuers, the client just doesn't remember your setting between sessions which is pretty annoying.

Currently even trading BTC <--> XRP doesn't work for me (#350), so I'd like that resolved before I try BTC <--> BTC.

Can someone please provide an updated answer to http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/7871/how-do-i-exchange-the-issuer-of-my-btc-in-ripple ?

David's answer on how to exchange them didn't work for me.
