*Autocomplete* or: How I learned to stop spelling and love our AI overlords
===

Have you ever woken up and said to yourself, "Hey, I really wish I knew how the underlying
probabilistic principles account for the effectiveness of corrections and suggestions
given to me as I type out my next Google query or text on my iPhone"?

Me neither! But let's imagine we did.

This project tries to lay out the bare minimum in order to help map the theory
to the intuition.

So grab a cup of coffee, take a sip and read along as we explore the sometimes misunderstood
principles of conditional probability and the generalized [Markov chain](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markov_chain)
and the [Hidden Markov Model](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_Markov_model)(?)[1](https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/2xwi3g/textbooks_dont_explain_the_practicality_of_hidden/cp41osh).
Autocomplete is an adult and kid friendly exercise in creating your own AI program.

For those short on time, the [ELI5](#explain-like-im-5) section is devoid of nomenclature but lengthy; the [tl;dr](#tldr) section describes the implementation using the appropriate terms - basic principles of conditional probability, generalized [Markov chain](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markov_chain) - but is short, concise, and includes references for further reading.
