Following on from this tweet thread by @helske:

A periodic reminder that while dgamma in R uses shape-rate parameterization by default, the internal C function dgamma uses shape-scale parameterization.

This book would be a good place to curate a list of these kinds of idiosyncrasies of the stats package. They can be initially documented in this issue.
