New Talents

General Talents

Mineralogist

A loose term for someone able to use Crafting on gems, crystals, glass, ceramics and fine stonework, a mineralogist is a combined jeweller, optician, glassblower and potter. In a world where metals are rare and few people become Smiths, it is no surprise that Mineralogy is highly developed.

  1. You can use the Crafting skill to make mirrors, lenses, jewellery, ceramics and stone sculptures. You can create meditative foci which have a +1 Gear Bonus as described in psionic gear. You can turn sand into glass or clay into pots and other ceramics if you have access to suitable equipment, such as furnaces and kilns.
  2. Whenever you craft an item with a Gear Bonus, you may make it one point higher than normal, including up to +2 for a meditation focus. This takes twice as long, and your roll is modified by -2.
  3. Whenever you craft an item with a Gear Bonus, you may make it two points higher than normal, including up to +3 for a meditation focus. This takes four times as long, and your roll is modified by -4.

Extra Professions

You can't normally learn Talents from a different Profession to the one you started with (see p40). Each level of this Talent unlocks an additional Profession. Eg if you start with Fighter and take two levels in this Talent, you could unlock Rogue and Sorcerer, allowing you to later learn any of the Rogue or Sorcerer Talents.

Meditation

You have learned a suite of breathing exercises, mantras, mudras and asanas, allowing you to harmonize your body and mind to attain awareness, calm and focus.

  1. Some psionic powers can optionally benefit from Meditation. If you have this talent, such powers allow you to roll Insight to add to the ordinary effects. Furthermore, many ritual versions of psionic powers have Meditation talent as a pre-requisite, even if they don't explicitly rely on an Insight roll.
  2. You may spend a slow action to take a breath and prepare yourself for mental challenges. Roll Insight; for the rest of the encounter, the number of successes act as armor whenever you take Wits or Empathy damage. If you still take Wits or Empathy damage anyway, gain a Willpower Point (once per encounter).
  3. Every time you roll Insight, you may add a D8 Artifact Die to the roll.

Administration

A knowledge of city-state laws, bureaucracies, accounting, management, and the mechanations of sorcerer-king courts. This skill is assumed to be transferrable to any city-state, although mild penalties may be appropriate while becoming acculturated to a new area.

  1. When you need to recall or use laws, bureaucratic systems, accounting methods and politics, you may make a Lore check.

Elemental effects, necromancy, and transmogrification to draconic form.

Control plant growth and protect from defilement.

Enchant items with magical power. (Or give this to Crafter?)
