Mosh for Chrome unable to connect in latest MacOS

I've been successfully using mosh for chrome for years on my Mac with no issues. Recently, I've discovered that mosh for chrome won't work any more. When connecting to a known server that is properly functioning, the mosh terminal window comes up black, and stays totally black.

If I instead use the mac terminal, and then execute mosh on the command line, I am successfully able to connect to the same server. Any ideas why this isn't working from chrome any more? I've heard from someone else who has lately been experiencing the exact same issue on MacOS 12.0.1 Monterey.
