Question: how to reproduce "Mike Bostock's Les Misérables Co-occurrence" #10

I wonder if d3heatmap is suitable to build the equivalent of Mike Bostock's Les Misérables Co-occurrence?

How would I build the sexy transitions using d3heatmap and shiny?

Would any other tool (within R & shiny) offer similar / better results?

It's not currently possible. I wasn't really thinking of heatmap transitions when I started out, but it makes plenty of sense I guess.
