Thank you for writing this up--I believe I would also choose this method, allowing us to upgrade via replica failover in the future as well. Especially given we are on 11 and need to get to 15, I believe it is worthwhile to do the extra work to have an almost-zero downtime option, especially since this gives us many smaller (and easier to undo) steps during the upgrade in case we run into unexpected problems.
