Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 10 week programming project during their break from school.

Season of Docs provides support for open source projects to improve their documentation and gives professional technical writers an opportunity to gain experience in open source. Together we raise awareness of open source, of docs, and of technical writing.

Outreachy

Season of KDE Every year since 2013, KDE Student Programs has been running Season of KDE as a program similar to, but not quite the same as Google Summer of Code, offering an opportunity to everyone (not just students) to participate in both code and non-code projects that benefits the KDE ecosystem.

The Linux Foundation’s Mentorship Programs are designed to help developers with the necessary skills–many of whom are first-time open source contributors–experiment, learn, and contribute effectively to open source communities. More than 190 mentees have been accepted since the programs started in 2019, participating in 96 mentorship programs.

Learn valuable mainframe skills to launch your career while helping improve the state of Linux and Open Source on Mainframe development community. The Open Mainframe Project funds mentees to complete projects during the LFX Mentorship terms. Upon successful completion of the mentorship, mentees are invited to present at an industry conference. The Open Mainframe Project provides a stipend for selected mentees.

Codeheat

Codeheat is a coding contest for FOSSASIA projects on GitHub. The contest is separated into two months period after which winners of each period are announced. The jury will choose the winners from the top 10 contributors according to code quality and relevance of commits for the project each period.

The Reinforcement Learning (RL) Open Source Fest is a global online program focused on introducing students to open source reinforcement learning programs and software development while working alongside researchers, data scientists, and engineers on the Real World Reinforcement Learning team at Microsoft Research NYC. Students will work on a four-month research programming project during their break from university (May-August 2021). Accepted students will receive a $10,000 USD stipend.
