Can you please make your indicator not requiring python-appindicator, python-glade2, python-imaging packages? I really don't want to install any python-* package system-wide.

I also suggest you to put a force flag in https://github.com/salseeg/ping-indicator/blob/master/pkg/DEBIAN/postrm:

rm -f /usr/bin/ping-indicator

Because if the file does not exist (like in mine case 'case I didn't install your package completely), you won't be able to upgrade your system neither install any new package. You will see the error saying removing ping-indicator package is failed. You won't be able to fix it with apt autoremove. I needed to manually modify /var/lib/dpkg/info/ping-indicator.postrm and uncomment this line which is a very unobvious thing to do.
