V1 End of Life Notice

Hi folks,

I wanted to give you advanced notice about the End of Life (EOL) plans for Sceptre Version 1.

What

• EOL for Sceptre Version 1 will be 1st June 2019.

• V1 won't "go away" and you are of course free to continue to use V1 up to and beyond the
  EOL date; we just won't be actively supporting it.

• From the 1st June 2019 Issues and Pull Requests that relate to only v1 feature
  requests/improvements/bugs will be closed. If the Issue/Pull Request is also applicable to V2 it
  will remain open.

Why

• We have limited resources and our time is better spent focused on improving V2 which provides
  a more stable foundation to grow the project from.

• We have been ironing out some issues with V2. The feeling is that before the V1 EOL
  date V2 will be significantly further ahead in terms of features and stability that V1 EOL
  makes sense.

In the meantime ...

• Version 1.5 beta (and hopefully 1.5.0) will be released in the first quarter of 2019. This is will
  include bug fixes and some new features. Depending on availability we might even get a couple of
  other releases out beyond 1.5.0 before 1st June 2019. We will prioritise bugs, where appropriate.

• If you are starting a new Sceptre project I would recommend using V2.

• If your existing Sceptre project is small/mid sized I would recommend reading the Migration Guide
  and attempting to upgrade. Please feel free to raise issues or questions. This will help us
  continue to iron out any V2 issues and improve documentation before 1st June.

• We are looking at whether or not some form of migration script can be developed to help larger
  projects transition to V2, although this might not be feasible.

• I appreciate that there are members of the community that won't want to or can't upgrade to V2. If
  V1 is working for you and upgrading isn't possible then I would encourage you to continue using
  V1; and hope you will consider v2 for 'green-field' projects.

I know this announcement won't be popular with some of you but I hope you understand that it is
necessary, least not for my sanity!
