Currently each Metadata has to have a CNAME string attribute, which the translator service uses to search for compatible metadata types.

This is highly fragile and a new system for discovery should be adopted

Also, the "exact" flag in the translate() method is confusing.. it would be nice to eliminate this or add API that doesn't include it.
